Barley news Romania: Barley price is EUR 83/t in Western areas and growing

The price given to farmers for barley in Western areas of the country is generally RON0.3 per kg, which is EUR 83 per ton at current exchange rate, UkrAgroConsult released in its 29th Weekly report for the week ended July 24. The price is accepted as acceptable and covering costs by farmers. Farmers refuse to sell otherwise than against cash, having in mind the problems incurred in previous years. It is expected for the price to slightly increase in the following weeks.

The yield in Western areas is estimated at 3.5 t/ha, as
compared to 4 or even 4.5 t/ha in the previous years. The reports refer to large-enough farms, as the yield on average for Romania is very volatile from one to another and rarely above 3 t/ha.
Barley is purchased from farmers in South Eastern areas at RON 0.25, but as the farmers report below-expectations crop the price is expected to increase rapidly toward the price in Western areas.
